Behind-the-Wheel Training in Elyria
Ohio DPS currently lists two Elyria providers from the county foundation:

Both offer behind-the-wheel training.
Learning to Drive in Elyria: SR 57, Abbe Road and a Busy City Street Network
State Route 57
SR 57 is one of Elyria's defining north-south routes.
ODOT began 2026 resurfacing work on SR 57 from Cleveland Street south to Chestnut Ridge Road, including guardrail work, curb ramps, milling and resurfacing.
STATUS: ACTIVE 2026 ODOT PROJECT.
The city is also seeking engineering design services for future improvements near SR 57 and Chestnut Ridge Road.
That future design work should not be confused with the current resurfacing project.
State Route 301 / Abbe Road North
ODOT also began 2026 resurfacing on SR 301/Abbe Road North from SR 57 to the city corporation limits.
For beginning drivers, Abbe Road provides a useful example of a major city arterial connecting schools, neighborhoods and regional routes.
Griswold Road Current Traffic Changes
As of August 24, 2026, Elyria has a significant current traffic change on Griswold Road between Tillotson Street and West River Road.
Eastbound traffic is closed, westbound traffic is reduced, and the city recommends Midway Boulevard as an alternate route.
STATUS: ACTIVE AS OF AUGUST 26, 2026.
This should be refreshed frequently.
Elyria High School
Elyria High School is located at:

Elyria, OH 44035
The school opened for the 2026-27 year on August 24-25.
Middle Avenue is therefore particularly relevant to student drivers during arrival, dismissal and school activities.
I-90, SR 2 and U.S. 20
Elyria also gives students access to much larger regional roads.
The Lorain County foundation identifies I-90, SR 2, U.S. 20 and SR 57 as key routes associated with the Elyria area.
A new driver can therefore progress from:
