Our online driver education courses are fully approved in Ohio by the Department of Public Safety (DPS). Our enterprise license number is #1465.
The following steps describe how teens can earn their permit and license. For information on abbreviated adult driver training, scroll down.
Teens who complete the first 2 hours of our Ohio Drivers Education course will receive a Certificate of Enrollment to obtain a learner’s permit and enroll with a licensed driving school to begin in-car driver training.
After receiving the Certificate of Enrollment, teens must locate a nearby driver exam location to take the written and vision tests. We also recommend ordering our DPS Practice tests, which are designed to help teens pass the DPS written exam on the first attempt. The DPS Practice tests can be ordered during online enrollment or at any point during the course.
After passing the exams, teens have sixty (60) days to visit the Deputy Registrar License Agency where they must present identification documents and purchase a Temporary Instructional Permit Identification Card.
After getting a permit, teens are required to complete 50 hours of in-car practice (including 10 hours at night) with their parent or guardian, who must have a notarized Affidavit certifying the completion of all 50 hours of training. This is in addition to the required 8 hours of in-car training with a licensed Ohio driving school.
For teens to obtain a driver’s license in Ohio, they must meet the following requirements:
1. Be at least 16 years of age
2. Held a permit for at least 6 months
3. Earned a Certificate of Completion from a driving school (like ASkillfulDriver.com)
4. Completed 8 hours of in-car training with a licensed commercial driving school
5. Completed all 50 hours of required practice driving with a parent or legal guardian, including 10 hours of nighttime driving
Applicants for initial drivers licenses who are 18 or older are required to take an abbreviated adult driver education course upon failing the behind-the-wheel portion of the driving test. Before the second testing attempt, they must meet the following requirements:
1. Earn a Certificate of Completion from an abbreviated adult driver training course (like ASkillfulDriver.com)
2. Complete 4 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a licensed instructor or 24 hours with a licensed driver 21 years of age or older and present the notarized twenty-four hour affidavit if necessary
