Ohio Online Driver Education for Teens

Beginning drivers under 21 must complete 24 hours of classroom or online instruction, eight hours of behind-the-wheel training, and 50 hours of supervised practice, including 10 hours at night. Our online course fulfills the required 24-hour instructional portion.

Ohio DPS-Licensed Teen Driver Education

Since September 30, 2025, every Ohio first-time driver from 15 1/2 through 20 must complete a 24-hour driver education course, eight hours of behind-the-wheel training, and 50 hours of supervised practice before taking the road test.

Students must complete 50 hours of supervised practice driving, including at least 10 hours at night. Bring a completed BMV 5791 Fifty-Hour Affidavit to the driving and skills test.

Permit rules

A TIPIC does not allow you to drive alone. You may drive only with a qualified licensed adult in the front passenger seat. If you are under 16, that person must be a parent, guardian, custodian, or licensed driving instructor. Additional nighttime restrictions apply.
